Si este 2026 terminara justo hoy, yo ya tendría un disco del año y sería el “Loss” de GAEREA, ya que creo que la banda portuguesa ha reinventado su sonido, si bien sobre la base del post black metal que tradicionalmente venía haciendo al incorporar elementos de otros géneros que me han sorprendido muchísimo sobre todo desde el desde el primer tema como es el caso de elementos propios del metalcore.
Sé que puede sonar extraño que una banda de post black metal se decida a introducir elementos de metalcore y que esa combinación suene bien, pero es que en este disco es espectacular el resultado obtenido, ya que al incorporar estos elementos más melódicos los temas se rebajan de tensión y, sobre todo, añaden elementos diferenciales que permiten que el disco no suene tan plano y sea mucho más cercano a los oídos que no están tan familiarizados con el metal extremo.

If 2026 were to end right today, I’d already have my album of the year, and it would be GAEREA’s “Loss,” since I believe the Portuguese band has reinvented its sound—albeit building on the post-black metal foundation they’ve traditionally relied on—by incorporating elements from other genres that have really surprised me, especially from the very first track, such as elements typical of metalcore.
I know it might sound strange for a post-black metal band to decide to introduce metalcore elements and for that combination to sound good, but the result on this album is spectacular, because by incorporating these more melodic elements, the tracks lose some of their tension and, above all, add distinctive elements that prevent the album from sounding so flat and make it much more accessible to ears not so familiar with extreme metal.
