Cada día aparecen nuevas bandas dentro de la NWOTHM, pero en muchas ocasiones nos hayamos ante bandas, que si bien recuerdan a aquellos glorirosos años, no llegan a calar en nuestros oídos como lo hicieron los padres fundadores.
Es cierto que hay muchas excepciones, pero la reciente publicación de “Midnight blitz” de los británicos TAILGUNNER ha hecho que muchos pongamos el foco en esta joven banda, ya que en este disco se percibe la esencia de la New Wave pero acompañada de unas composiciones que, por sí mismas, ya son excepcionales.
Los cambios en la formación acaecidos después de la publicación de su álbum de debut han consolidado su sonido, como es el caso de las baterías, que en muchos momentos se van al speed metal más genuino, pero lo que ha supuesto un salto cualitativo fundamental ha sido la mejora exponencial de la voz de Craig Cairns.
Aunque ela propia banda cita como referencias alos Judas Priest y a Iron Maiden, la mezcla finald e todo ello, me ha recordado a los Helloween clásicos, fundiendo el heavy meta con el power europeo.
Como me decía Juanma el otro día: “Ante la pregunta de si eres de Judas o de Maiden, ahora la respuesta es: soy de TAILGUNNER”. Yo también.

Every day new bands appear within the NWOTHM, but in many cases we find ourselves faced with bands that, although reminiscent of those glorious years, fail to resonate with us in the same way as the founding fathers did.
There are certainly many exceptions, but the recent release of Midnight Blitz by British band TAILGUNNER has made many of us focus on this young band, as this album captures the essence of New Wave accompanied by compositions that are exceptional in their own right.
The changes in the lineup that occurred after the release of their debut album have consolidated their sound, as is the case with the drums, which in many moments veer toward the most genuine speed metal, but what has meant a fundamental qualitative leap has been the exponential improvement in Craig Cairns’ voice.
Although the band itself cites Judas Priest and Iron Maiden as references, the final mix of it all reminded me of classic Helloween, blending heavy metal with European power metal.
As Juanma said to me the other day: “When asked if you’re a Judas or a Maiden fan, now the answer is: I’m a TAILGUNNER fan.” Me too.
