Reconozco que tenía ganas ya de escuchar el nuevo disco de DAWN OF SOLACE, que es el proyecto en solitario del guitarrista y cantante de WOLFHEART, Tuomas Saukkonen, junto con Mikko Heikilla, y el disco se llama “Affliction Vortex”.
Tenía ganas porque desde el año 2020, de lo que sacaron aquel “Waves”, no teníamos noticias de este proyecto, y es un sonido, que para los que no estáis familiarizados con él, es Doom, a diferencia de lo que sería WOLFHEART, que es más centrado en el death metal melódico, en este caso, es un sonido Doom de la típica escuela finlandesa.
De hecho, escuchándolo recordará bastante a SWALLOW THE SUN, por ejemplo, ya que este disco también es una propuesta en la cual los temas se centran en una frase,la cual, a medida que va avanzando el tema, con pequeños arreglos armónicos, generando distintas texturas a lo largo de las canciones.
El reparto de papeles que hacen entre los dos músicos, es por un lado Tuomas, que es el que se encargaría de tocar todos los instrumentos y las voces guturales, y luego, por otro lado, Mikka es el que hace las voces limpias, aunque en alguna entrevista, el propio Tuomas ha reconocido que Mikka ha cantado algunos guturales en ciertas partes.

I admit that I was already looking forward to listen to the new DAWN OF SOLACE album, which is the solo project of WOLFHEART guitarist and singer Tuomas Saukkonen, together with Mikko Heikilla, and the album is called «Affliction Vortex».
I was looking forward to it because since 2020, from what they released that «Waves», we had no news of this project, and it’s a sound, that for those of you who are not familiar with it, is Doom, unlike what WOLFHEART would be, which is more focused on melodic death metal, in this case, it’s a Doom sound of the typical Finnish school.
In fact, listening to it will remind you quite a lot to SWALLOW THE SUN, for example, since this album is also a proposal in which the themes are focused on a phrase,which, as the theme progresses, with small harmonic arrangements, generating different textures throughout the songs.
The distribution of roles that make between the two musicians, is on the one hand Tuomas, who is the one who would be responsible for playing all the instruments and guttural vocals, and then, on the other hand, Mikka is the one who does the clean vocals, although in some interview, Tuomas himself has acknowledged that Mikka has sung some gutturals in certain parts.
