Como creo que he repetido unas cuentas veces por aquí, lo bueno del mundo del Rock que no tiene parangón con el de otros estilos, es el afán por descubrir y compartir grupos… espero no ser pesado con esto, ¡pero es que es lo que nos diferencia del resto del mundo musical! Pues bien, en una de esas conversaciones con mi amigo Javi, me dijo: “pues yo estoy con JOB FOR A COWBOY, creo que te van a gustar”. Y dicho y hecho, me puse con su último trabajo “Moon healer” y si estoy escribiendo sobre ellos es porque me encantaron.
JOB FOR A COWBOY son una banda norteamericana (de Arizona, para ser exactos) formada en 2002 y que fusionan el metal progresivo, con el hardcore y el death. Evidentemente, no esperéis baladas.
Los temas con una descarga frenética de potencia y cambios de ritmo. El conjunto suena a lo que sugiere la portada del disco: una consecución de ideas procedentes de una mente desequilibrada, en la que conviven muchas voces a la vez. De hecho la propia banda clarifica que esta álbum es la continuación conceptual del “Sun eater”, que estaba basado en las experiencias producidas por el consumo continuado y excesivo de drogas en un conocido de la banda y que derivó en episodios de trastorno bipolar y esquizofrenia.
Volviendo al tema estrictamente musical, con independencia de los subgéneros que tocan, todo el disco tiene un halo experimental, con un protagonismo muy enriquecedor del bajo, que va marcando sus líneas dentro de la armonía y la voz de John Davy, que personifica a la perfección esa pluralidad de voces con el manejo del gutural en sus distintas técnicas.
Es tal el contraste de ritmos y velocidades, que cuando acabé el disco fue como si el mundo se ralentizara y es que JOB FOR A COWBOY dan mucha tralla.

As I have repeated a few times here, the good thing about the Rock world that has no comparison with other styles, is the eagerness to discover and share bands… I hope I’m not being heavy with this, but it is what differentiates us from the rest of the musical world! Well, in one of those conversations with my friend Javi, he told me: «well, I’m with JOB FOR A COWBOY, I think you’re gonna like them». And said and done, I started with their latest work «Moon healer» and if I’m writing about them is because I loved it.
JOB FOR A COWBOY are an American band (from Arizona, to be exact) formed in 2002 and that fuse progressive metal, hardcore and death. Obviously, don’t expect ballads.
The songs have a frenetic discharge of power and rhythm changes. The whole sounds like what the cover of the album suggests: a collection of ideas coming from an unbalanced mind, in which many voices coexist at the same time. In fact the band itself clarifies that this album is the conceptual continuation of «Sun eater», which was based on the experiences produced by the continuous and excessive consumption of drugs in an acquaintance of the band and that derived in episodes of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
Returning to the strictly musical theme, whatever the subgenres they play, the whole album has an experimental halo, with a very enriching protagonism of the bass, which is marking its lines within the harmony and the voice of John Davy, who perfectly embodies this plurality of voices with the handling of the guttural in its different techniques.
It is such a contrast of rhythms and speeds, that when I finished the album it was as if the world slowed down and JOB FOR A COWBOY give much grind.
