Últimamente siempre digo, y me reafirmo, que el Hard Rock no está pasando por uno de sus mejores momentos; aparecen muchas bandas con buenos singles, pero faltos de un álbum que tenga toda esa calidad con la que se nos presentan en sus adelantos.
Por suerte, siempre tiene que haber excepciones, y esperamos que sigan saliendo más, y de vez en cuando nos encontramos con grupos como estos suizos KING ZEBRA que, de la mano de todo un veterano como el cantante ex-CHINA Eric St. Michaels, nos han vuelto a regalar un fenomenal ‘Between the Shadows’.
Utilizando la misma fórmula que en su anterior ‘Survivors’ del 2021, sin inventar nada nuevo, nos atacan con diez nuevos temas y, en poco más de 35 minutos te hacen disfrutar y tararear en cada uno de ellos con melodías y estribillos pegadizos en los que en algunos momentos te pueden llegar a recordar a DEF LEPPARD, como en la genial ‘Wicked’, el single ‘Dina’ y sobretodo, en la final ‘Restless Revolution’, donde incluso Eric parece el mismísimo Joe Elliott, con unos acordes de guitarra que bien podrían tener cabida en cualquier disco de estos últimos años de los de Sheffield.
En este reciente plástico, vuelven a contar con el productor Oscar Nilsson (THE HALO EFFECT o IN FLAMES…..), quien hace un excelente trabajo, donde me gustaría destacar la labor en las seis cuerdas, dando como resultado unos poderosos riffs y efectivos solos como en la inicial ‘Starlight’,la rápida ‘Out in the Wild’ de nuevo con muy buenos coros y sobresalientes guitarras y, en para mí dos de los mejores momentos del disco en la forma de ‘Love Lies’ y ‘Cyanide’.
Si tuviera que poner una pega, sería que he echado de menos una power ballad. Entonces ya hubiera sido perfecto, pero lo dicho: no todo está perdido. Un gran disco. Recomendado para todo seguidor del hard rock melódico.

Lately I always say, and I reaffirm myself, that Hard Rock is not going through one of its best moments; many bands appear with good singles, but lacking an album that has all that quality with which they are presented in their previews.
Luckily, there always have to be exceptions, and we hope that there will be more, and from time to time we find bands like these Swiss KING ZEBRA who, with the help of a veteran like ex-CHINA singer Eric St. Michaels, have once again given us a phenomenal ‘Between the Shadows’.
Using the same formula as in their previous ‘Survivors’ from 2021, without inventing anything new, they attack us with ten new songs and, in just over 35 minutes they make you enjoy and hum in each of them with catchy melodies and choruses in which at some points you can get to remember DEF LEPPARD, as in the great ‘Wicked’, the single ‘Dina’ and above all, in the final ‘Restless Revolution’, where Eric even sounds like Joe Elliott himself, with guitar chords that could have a place in any album of these last years of the Sheffield band.
In this recent album, they once again count on producer Oscar Nilsson (THE HALO EFFECT or IN FLAMES…..), who does an excellent job, where I would like to highlight the work on the six strings, resulting in some powerful riffs and effective solos as in the opening ‘Starlight’, the fast ‘Out in the Wild’ again with very good choruses and outstanding guitars and, for me, two of the best moments of the album in the form of ‘Love Lies’ and ‘Cyanide’.
If I had to put a downside, it would be that I missed a power ballad. Then it would have been perfect, but all is not lost. A great album. Recommended for any follower of melodic hard rock.
