En lo que llevamos de año, cada vez que ha sonado alguno de los adelantos de los helenos ROTTING CHRIST en Hörns Üp, les han caído una buena cascada de cervezas, y no es para menos. “Like father and son”, “Saoirse” y “The apostate” han dejado un excelente sabor de boca entre todos, que ansiábamos escuchar éste “Pro Xristou” íntegramente.
Este trabajo es conceptual, ya que en cada uno de los temas la banda hace una oda a los reyes paganos que resistieron a la invasión del cristianismo, luchando por defender su religión y su legado cultural.
“Pro Xristou” puede entenderse como una continuación de su predecesor “The heretics” de 2019, no sólo por la temática, pues la banda siempre ha incluido referencias a la religión y a la imposición cultural que ha supuesto el cristianismo a lo largo de la historia, sino por el sonido, ya que su black metal ambiental se ve nuevamente aderezado con coros épicos y ritmos muy contundentes.
Para ser una referencia dentro del black metal europeo, no se dan muchos blast beats en sus baterías, y cuando se dan, como en el tema “La letterea del Diavolo”, la voz hace las veces del caballero que pretende sostener a la fiera desbocada, pues en vez de seguir la velocidad de las guitarras y la batería, mantiene en todo momento la cadencia cercana al recitativo.
Quizás esta evolución de su sonido se va a aproximando a sonidos más folk, no tanto por la introducción de instrumentos tradicionales, sino en el uso de las escalas adecuadas que casan a la perfección con el homenaje al paganismo que transmiten. “Pretty world, pretty dies” y “The sixth day” pueden ser dos buenos ejemplos de esto.
Cada disco nuevo que sacan, soy más fan de ROTTING CHRIST.

During this year, every time that one of the first songs of the Hellenic band ROTTING CHRIST has been played at Hörns Üp, they have received a good amount of beers, and it is not for less. «Like father and son», «Saoirse» and «The apostate» have left an excellent taste in everyone’s mouth, who were anxious to listen to this «Pro Xristou» in its entirety.
This work is conceptual, because in each of the songs the band makes an ode to the pagan kings who resisted the invasion of Christianity, fighting to defend their religion and their cultural legacy.
«Pro Xristou» can be understood as a continuation of its predecessor «The heretics» from 2019, not only for the subject matter, as the band has always included references to religion and the cultural imposition that Christianity has meant throughout history, but also for the sound, as their ambient black metal is again seasoned with epic choruses and very forceful rhythms.
For being a reference within the European black metal, there are not many blast beats in their drums, and when there are, as in the song «La letterea del Diavolo», the voice plays the role of the knight who pretends to hold the rampaging beast, because instead of following the speed of the guitars and drums, it maintains at all times the cadence close to the recitative.
Perhaps this evolution of their sound is approaching more folk sounds, not so much by the introduction of traditional instruments, but in the use of appropriate scales that fit perfectly with the tribute to paganism that they transmit. «Pretty world, pretty dies» and «The sixth day» can be two good examples of this.
