Procedente la integración de muchas de las mejores bandas que ha habido en España de death metal melódico y doom (hablamos ni más ni menos de grupos de la talla de EVADNE, DARKNESS BY OATH o DENIAL, entre otras), surgió en 2020 el proyecto SHALLOW WATERS, siendo “All colour blur to one” su segundo trabajo y que a todos los que nos gustan el doom y el metal oscuro en general, deberíamos tener en nuestras listas de reproducción.
Este disco muestra mayor diversidad de sonoridades entre los dos subgéneros que nutren la personalidad de la banda, pues se perciben claramente las influencias del post black metal y del doom de una forma más significativa que en su álbum de debut, “Bed of snakes”· En este disco, hay temas que se centran en el black como “Everlesting shadows” o “Whisper of a dying soul”, pero creo que la nota más significativa se la lleva el sonido más oscuro e introspectivo propio del doom, con auténticos temazos como “Cyclops”, el propio “All colours blur to one” o el magnífico “11 stairs to despair”.
El disco en su conjunto genera esa sensación que me engancha a este subgénero: la cadencia melódica que te va atrayendo hacia un fondo oscuro, en el que la calma, la rabia y el dolor conviven en una extraña armonía de la que no quieres salir. Ese estado se genera de forma magistral por la voz de Pablo Egido, que maneja el gutural de manera que los growls no resultan planos o monótonos, sino que saben comunicar sentimientos y estados de ánimo.
El trabajo compositivo de la parte instrumental también es de destacar, pues crean una atmósfera idónea para el recogimiento, no cayendo en la reiteración de patrones ni en la excesiva melancolía que podría hacer perder fuerza al disco. Tristán Iñiguez, Andoni Barquero (guitarras), Morten Akerburu (bajo) y Rober García (batería) hacen un trabajo excepcional.
“All colours blur to one” es un disco de lo mejor que he escuchado en doom en los últimos años (y escucho bastante). Sólo espero que se le dé la repercusión que se merece y que el hecho de que no vengan de Finlandia o Suecia no sea una merma en su reconocimiento.

Coming from the integration of many of the best melodic death metal and doom bands in Spain (we are talking about bands like EVADNE, DARKNESS BY OATH or DENIAL, among others), the project SHALLOW WATERS was born in 2020, being «All color blur to one» their second work and that all of us who like doom and dark metal in general, should have in our playlists.
This album shows a greater diversity of sonorities between the two subgenres that nurture the band’s personality, as the influences of post black metal and doom are clearly perceived in a more significant way than in their debut album, «Bed of snakes». In this album, there are songs that focus on black metal like «Everlesting shadows» or «Whisper of a dying soul», but I think that the most significant note is taken by the darker and introspective sound of doom, with real great songs like «Cyclops», the own «All colours blur to one» or the magnificent «11 stairs to despair».
The album as a whole generates that feeling that hooks me to this subgenre: the melodic cadence that draws you into a dark background, in which calm, rage and pain coexist in a strange harmony that you don’t want to leave. This state is masterfully generated by the voice of Pablo Egido, who handles the guttural in such a way that the growls are not flat or monotonous, but know how to communicate feelings and moods.
The compositional work of the instrumental part is also remarkable, as they create an ideal atmosphere for meditation, not falling into the reiteration of patterns or excessive melancholy that could make the album lose strength. Tristán Iñiguez, Andoni Barquero (guitars), Morten Akerburu (bass) and Rober García (drums) do an exceptional job.
«All colours blur to one» is one of the best doom albums I have heard in the last years (and I listen quite a lot). I only hope it gets the repercussion it deserves and that the fact that they don’t come from Finland or Sweden doesn’t diminish their recognition.
