Parece que este 2024 es un año de retornos y regresos, pues si hace unos pocos días estábamos hablando del nuevo trabajo y aniversario de los JUDAS PRIEST, (que nunca se marcharon), en esta ocasión hablamos de los míticos THE BLACK CROWES, que se e tomaron un parón ante la incompatibilidad de caracteres de sus fundadores, los hermanos Robinson.
Cada vez que un grupo de este renombre vuelve (y esto lo digo por mí), la expectativa está altísima porque siempre estoy esperando a que vuelvan a crear una joya como aquellos primeros discos y me resisto a pensar que el tiempo pueda hacer mella en su talento.
Con escuchar el principio de “Beside manners” esbocé una sonrisa al ver que el binomio Rich/Chris sigue funcionando en lo musical como los motores de los buenos coches… lo que hagan en la cena de Nochebuena ya no nos concierne.
“Happiness bastards” es un disco de una grandísima calidad en sus composiciones, siempre dentro de esa línea del hard rock clásico y el rock sureño tan perfectamente empastado. En “Hapiness bastards” podemos encontrar temas con guitarras afiladísimas como en “Dirty cold sun”, a otras acústicas casi en el terreno del country como al comienzo de “Cross your fingers” o “Wilted rose”, y es que la mano del productor Jay Joyce se nota. Como colofón, composiciones “Bleed it dry” y “Kindred friend” culminan los deseos de los rockeros y bluseros de la vieja escuela (como un servidor) con sus shuffles y armónicas.
Lo bueno de los grandes tótems es ver cómo ellos siguen impertérritos en su estilo sin dejarse llevar por olas y modas que vayan deformando el recuerdo que tenemos de ellos, y “Happiness bastards” es una muestra perfecta de esto: THE BLACK CROWES siguen mostrando por qué son uno de los grandes nombres del rock contemporáneo y hacen exhibición de esto con un pedazo de disco que, si bien no es tan sobresaliente como el “She talks to angels”, sí es un trabajo que muestra que la fuente de THE BLACK CROWES está lejos de secarse.

It seems that this 2024 is a year of returns and comebacks, because if a few days ago we were talking about the new work and anniversary of JUDAS PRIEST, (who never left), and this time we are talking about the mythical THE BLACK CROWES, who took a break due to the incompatibility of characters of its founders, the Robinson brothers.
Every time a band of this renown returns (and I say this for myself), the expectation is very high because I am always waiting for them to come back to create a jewel like those first albums and I refuse to think that time can make a dent in their talent.
ust listening to the beginning of «Beside manners» made me smile to see that the Rich/Chris pairing continues to work musically like the engines of a good car… what they do at Christmas Eve dinner is no longer our business.
«Happiness bastards» is an album of a very high quality in its compositions, always within that line of classic hard rock and southern rock so perfectly blended. In «Happiness bastards» we can find songs with very sharp guitars as in «Dirty cold sun», to other acoustic songs almost in the field of country as at the beginning of «Cross your fingers» or «Wilted rose», and the hand of producer Jay Joyce is noticeable. As a culmination, compositions «Bleed it dry» and «Kindred friend» culminate the desires of the rockers and bluesmen of the old school (like me) with their shuffles and harmonicas.
The good thing about the great totems is to see how they remain undaunted in their style without being carried away by waves and fashions that deform the memory we have of them, and «Happiness bastards» is a perfect example of this: THE BLACK CROWES continue to show why they are one of the great names of contemporary rock and they showcase this with a piece of album that, although it is not as outstanding as «She talks to angels», it is a work that shows that the source of THE BLACK CROWES is far from drying up.
