Ciertamente SOEN han creado dependencia a la hora de aproximar nuestras inquietudes depositadas entre la melodÃa y la nostalgia, sin perdernos por los pabellones de locura que torturaban a sus potentes riffs. Esta necesidad de reivindicar su espacio entre las formaciones de metal moderno que beben del crossover musical, los ha llevado a alcanzar la cresta de la ola en Europa, donde ahora mismo, pocas bandas les pueden hacer sombra.
Si quizás el álbum que nos ocupa parezca inactivo en evolución, podrÃa acusarse, a quien lo manifieste de déficit de escuchas. Bien es cierto que la frontal y magnética voz de Joel, acapara todas las atenciones en estructuras que nos han enamorado en el pasado, en ese recreo entre luces y sombras moldeadas por textos explÃcitos, también puede producirnos cierto vértigo de comodidad, pero no es más que un ardid en su pequeña conquista de la escena mundial. El diablo está en los detalles y, tras esa hipnótica parsimonia, el resto de la banda ha conseguido liberarse del sambenito progresivo, para ofrecer voluptuosidad a sus ritmos, donde podemos apreciar a unos Metallica del Black Album renovados con algún frenesà djent y, más a larga distancia, ciertas escalas de los In Flames más melódicos. El resultado es grandilocuente dentro de su simplificación, un verdadero truco de magia.
Los de Martin Lopez han sentado cátedra, pero se han puesto un listón muy alto como para caer en la autocomplacencia y, por extensión, en nuestro hastÃo. El reto no ha hecho más que comenzar.

SOEN have certainly created a dependency when it comes to addressing our concerns, rooted in melody and nostalgia, without losing ourselves in the madness that tortured their powerful riffs. This need to claim their place among modern metal bands that draw on musical crossover has led them to reach the crest of the wave in Europe, where right now, few bands can overshadow them.
If the album in question seems inactive in its evolution, it could be accused of a lack of listening. It is true that Joel’s upfront and magnetic voice captures all the attention in structures that we have fallen in love with in the past, in that interlude between light and shadow shaped by explicit lyrics, which can also make us feel a certain vertigo of comfort, but it is nothing more than a ploy in their small conquest of the world stage. The devil is in the details, and behind that hypnotic parsimony, the rest of the band has managed to free itself from the progressive label to offer voluptuous rhythms, where we can appreciate a renewed Metallica from the Black Album with some djent frenzy and, further afield, certain scales from the more melodic In Flames. The result is grandiloquent in its simplicity, a true magic trick.
Martin Lopez’s band has set the standard, but they have set the bar too high to fall into complacency and, by extension, our boredom. The challenge has only just begun.
