PROTEST THE HERO, la banda canadiense de metal progresivo, después de una larga pausa de seis años, han vuelto a publicar un nuevo LP, “Within”, el octavo en su carrera.
Como viene siendo habitual y seña de identidad del grupo, las composiciones contienen un sinfín de cambios de registro, tanto vocales como instrumentales, pasando del metal al metalcore y al mathcore, con partes acústicas e incluso sinfónicas. Siguen manteniendo la frescura de no saber exactamente qué va a venir a continuación.
Aunque en los primeros discos esa incertidumbre rozaba en determinados momentos un cierto punto de locura y caos, ahora esa fluctuación resulta más contenida, pero sin mostrar agotamiento, pues los temas siguen captando la atención del oyente de principio a fin.
Este tipo de trabajos requieren una producción de alto voltaje para que cada matiz se perciba claramente, y nuevamente el sonido se percibe en toda su dimensión, sonando nítido y contundente a la vez.
“Within” sigue fiel al sonido de PROTEST THE HERO que les ha hecho ser una de las bandas referencia del prog actual.

PROTEST THE HERO, the Canadian progressive metal band, has returned after a long six-year hiatus to release a new LP, “Within,” the eighth of their career.
As has become customary and a hallmark of the group, the compositions feature endless shifts in style—both vocal and instrumental—ranging from metal to metalcore and mathcore, with acoustic and even symphonic elements. They continue to maintain that sense of freshness that comes from not knowing exactly what’s coming next.
Although on their early albums that uncertainty at times bordered on a certain degree of madness and chaos, now that fluctuation is more restrained—yet without showing any signs of fatigue, as the tracks continue to captivate the listener from start to finish.
This type of work requires high-energy production so that every nuance can be clearly perceived, and once again the sound comes across in all its dimensions, sounding crisp and powerful at the same time.
“Within” remains true to the PROTEST THE HERO sound that has made them one of the leading bands in today’s prog scene.
