[ENGLISH VERSION]

Nearly 40 years after “The Final Countdown,” EUROPE has just released its twelfth studio album, titled “Come This Madness.”

Far from trying to follow in the footsteps of the album that catapulted them to worldwide fame, this album continues the musical direction they’ve been setting since their return in 2004: a sound that bears more resemblance to progressive rock than to melodic hard rock, largely thanks to the work of John Norum and Mic Michaeli on guitars and keyboards.

It’s true that there are tracks where they return to the more melodic sound of their golden age, but they know how to revive it without falling into repetitive patterns—instead, it has been filtered through maturity and the passage of time.

Joey Tempest also knows how to maintain his distinctive and recognizable voice without trying to emulate his 1980s self. He knows how to adapt his current vocal tone to the songs without sounding nostalgic.

For those looking for a new “The Final Countdown,” don’t listen to “Come This Madness” because you won’t find it there—but you’ll miss out on what may be EUROPE’s best album since their comeback.
