No sé si me pasa solo a mí que estoy en plena crisis de la mediana edad o es una cosa más extendida entre los metaleros, que es que cuando por la mañana me pongo delante del espejo para ponerme la camisa y anudarme la corbata, no soy consciente de que voy perdiendo poco a poco la referencia de lo que un día fui o de lo que antaño buscaba en la música. Con el tiempo percibo que me he vuelto demasiado intenso incluso con la música que escucho. Por ejemplo, busco cada vez más melodías y atmósferas más sofisticadas y dejo de pensar en las referencias que me atrajeron a esta música, que no pretendían ser barrocas, sino que querían ser radicales y, por qué no decirlo, macarras. Pues gracias al escuchar el “Born to Rock ‘n’ Roll” de ASOMVEL, me he recodado a mí mismo lo que me atrajo del rock en su momento con un pulso tan intenso que creo que me ha desaparecido alguna cana.
El cuarteto británico trae su cuarto LP para volver a mostrarnos cuáles son sus influencias y en quién piensan cuando componen. No hay que hacer estudios de conservatorio ni musicología para ver el legado que Lemmy Kilmister les ha dejado. Y si es tan evidente, es porque están orgullosos de ello y quieren que se vea, pero no creo que nadie se atreva a decir que ASOMVEL son una copia de MOTÖRHEAD, pues las composiciones tienen fuerza propia y son buenísimas en sí mismas. Temas como “Lawless”, “Luck is for losers”, “Louder & louder” o “When you’re dead lie down” no son versiones, son temas que te llaman a salir a la calle con la cabeza alta y con la satisfacción de ver que se venera a los padres fundadores del rock.
Como he leído en algún comentario por internet: “ASOMVEL son como el hijo bastardo de MOTÖRHEAD y AC/DC”.
La producción mantiene ese filtro del sonido de los 80, con amplificadores con mucho grano y deliberadamente sucios y muchos agudos en las guitarras que intentan llegar al nivel de desgarro de la voz de Leny (que no Lemmy).
Dicho todo esto, sólo que me queda añadir una cosa para concluir: ASOMVEL, gracias por recodarme que el rock es y será siempre una fiesta.

I don’t know if it’s just me in the midlife crisis or if it’s something more widespread among metalheads, which is that when I stand in front of the mirror in the morning to put on my shirt and tie my tie, I’m not aware that I’m slowly losing the reference of what I once was or what I once looked for in music. Over time I perceive that I have become too intense even with the music I listen to. For example, I look for more and more sophisticated melodies and atmospheres and I stop thinking about the references that attracted me to this music, which did not pretend to be baroque, but wanted to be radical and, why not to say it, punk. Well, thanks to listening to ASOMVEL’s «Born to Rock ‘n’ Roll», I’ve reminded myself of what attracted me to rock at the time with such an intense pulse that I think I’ve lost a few grey hairs.
The British quartet brings their fourth LP to show us once again what their influences are and who they think of when they compose. You don’t have to study musicology or conservatory to see the legacy that Lemmy Kilmister has left them. And if it is so obvious, it is because they are proud of it and want it to be seen, but I don’t think anyone would dare to say that ASOMVEL are a copy of MOTÖRHEAD, because the compositions have their own strength and are very good in themselves. Songs like «Lawless», «Luck is for losers», «Louder & louder» or «When you’re dead lie down» are not covers, they are songs that call you to go out to the street with your head held high and with the satisfaction of seeing that the founding fathers of rock are venerated.
As I have read in some comments on the internet: «ASOMVEL are like the bastard child of MOTÖRHEAD and AC/DC».
The production keeps that filter of the 80’s sound, with grain-heavy and deliberately dirty amps and a lot of treble on the guitars trying to reach the level of Leny’s (not Lemmy’s) vocals.
Having said all this, there is only one thing left for me to add in conclusion: ASOMVEL, thanks for reminding me that rock is and will always be a party.
