En el respoken de hoy no voy a comentar sólo un disco más, sino que lo haré del cierre de un ciclo de una de las bandas referencia del death metal melódico que, gracias a ellos, el subgénero es lo que es hoy en día. Y es que este “The Ghost of a Future Dead”, el último trabajo de AT THE GATES, estará marcado para siempre por la muerte de su vocalista, Tomas “Tompa” Lindberg, en septiembre de 2025.
Ya desde su título el disco suena a homenaje y despedida ya que todos los miembros de la banda sabían cuál iba a ser el futuro inmediato de la banda. Afortunadamente, la salud le permitió a Tompa dar lo mejor de sí en todas las canciones, no pudiendo dejar mejor despedida, ya que el disco suena a AT THE GATES en estado puro: riffs afilados, melodías inmersivas e intensidad constante.
Todos los componentes de la banda están espectaculares, destacando, a parte de lo dicho de Tompa, las guitarras de Anders Björler, que con su regreso hacen que sus seis cuerdas conecten con la esencia de AT THE GATES.
Pero es inevitable al ver los videos de promoción del disco, centrar la vista en Tompa, al tener que decir adiós a uno de los nombres del metal contemporáneo. Te echaremos de menos, sin duda.

In today’s review, I’m not just going to discuss another album; instead, I’ll be talking about the end of an era for one of the seminal bands of melodic death metal—a subgenre that owes its current status entirely to them. And the fact is that this “The Ghost of a Future Dead,” the latest release from AT THE GATES, will forever be marked by the death of their vocalist, Tomas “Tompa” Lindberg, in September 2025.
Even from its title, the album feels like a tribute and a farewell, as all the band members knew what the band’s immediate future would be. Fortunately, Tompa’s health allowed him to give his all on every song, and he couldn’t have left a better farewell, as the album sounds like AT THE GATES in their purest form: sharp riffs, immersive melodies, and constant intensity.
All the band members are spectacular, with Anders Björler’s guitars standing out—besides what’s already been said about Tompa—as his return allows his six strings to connect with the very essence of AT THE GATES.
But when watching the album’s promotional videos, it’s impossible not to focus on Tompa, as we say goodbye to one of the giants of contemporary metal. We will miss you, without a doubt.
