FLORENCE BLACK – Bed of Nails, 2024 - Horns Up Metal Podcast 🤘

Bien sabéis que en Hörns Üp estamos en la búsqueda permanente de grupos y músicas que traeros, y en ello Juanma, Moy y un servidor echamos horas de scouting para compartiros lo mejor, como hacen los buenos amigos. Pues de una de esas búsquedas, Juanma me habló de FLORENCE BLACK y simplemente me encantaron, pero no pude dedicarles unas líneas ya que su último disco era de 2021. Pues la espera ha terminado al haber publicado “Bed of nails” este mes de febrero.

Lo que me llamó la atención del trío es la contundencia de sus temas en “Weight of the world”, su anterior LP. Al comenzar “Bed of nails” reencontré lo que me me esperaba: un rock/metal alternativo con unos estribillos directos al cerebro de esos que te hacen dejar de estar prestando atención a lo que tuvieras entre manos. Pero este disco esconde una sorpresa bajo la manga: es un disco que tiene mucho más de rock que de metal. Y es que según vamos pasando cortes vemos como FLORENCE BLACK son capaces de cruzar la frontera entre el metal con el rock con enorme solvencia. De hecho, temas como “Start again”, “Don’t hold me down” o “Solid 9” son un trallazo muy metal, mientras que “Look up”, “Beautiful lover” o “The way home” me hicieron mirar el reproductor para asegurarme que seguía escuchando el mismo álbum, pues derivan a un hard rock que no me esperaba, ya que su anterior disco no me resultó tan rockero.

En todo caso, tanto los temas más duros como los más rockeros, son auténticos hits que muestran la calidad de la banda y que puede hacer lo que se le plazca, hasta marcarse un temazo casi folk con “The forest”.

Grabaros este álbum en la mente para reescucharlo a final de año y ya me diréis si lo metéis en vuestro top.

You know that in Hörns Üp we are in constant search of bands and music to bring you, and Juanma, Moy and I spend hours of scouting to share with you the best, as good friends do. Well, in one of those searches, Juanma told me about FLORENCE BLACK and I simply loved them, but I couldn’t dedicate a few lines to them since their last album was released in 2021. Well, the wait is over as they have released «Bed of nails» this February.

What attracted my attention to the trio is the forcefulness of their songs in «Weight of the world», their previous LP. At the beginning of «Bed of nails» I found again what I expected: an alternative rock/metal with choruses straight to the brain that make you stop paying attention to whatever you had in your hands. But this album hides a surprise: it is an album that is much more rock than metal. And as we go through the tracks we see how FLORENCE BLACK are able to cross the border between metal and rock with enormous solvency. In fact, songs like «Start again», «Don’t hold me down» or «Solid 9» are very metal, while «Look up», «Beautiful lover» or «The way home» made me look at the player to make sure I was still listening to the same album, because they drift to a hard rock that I did not expect, since their previous album was not so rock.

In any case, both the harder and rockier songs are authentic hits that show the quality of the band and that they can do whatever they want, even making an almost folk-like hit with «The forest».
