Acaba de salir a la venta uno de los discos que, probablemente, haya revolucionado más el panorama  del metal en los últimos años. Ha sido publicarse “Invicible shiled” y es la comidilla en todos los corrillos y la banda sonora que ambienta todas las tiendas de discos que se precien.

Ya los ingleses habían calentado mucho el ambiente con los varios singles que habían ido publicando en los meses precedentes. Con temas como “Panic attack”, “The serpent and the King”, “Crown of horns” o “Trial by fire” se veía venir que sólo con esos temas ya íbamos a estar hablando de un disco referencia de su discografía y buena muestra de ello era la cantidad de birras que iban acumulando en cada uno de los programas de Hörns üp en los que se les incluía en la parrilla.

Como ya ocurrió con “Firepower”, su trabajo precedente, gran parte de la fuerza que despliega el grupo fluye a través de la guitarra de Richie Faulkner, que muestra estar en estado de gracia tanto a nivel compositivo como interpretativo, ya sea en las guitarras rítmicas como en las solistas.  Lo que hace en temas como “Devil in disguise” o “Crown of horns” es para sentar cátedra de cómo tocar la guitarra

Me he alegrado especialmente al escuchar la voz de Rob Halford manteniendo una variedad de registros tan amplia y sosteniendo tonos tan agudos a sus setenta y dos años, más aún cuando hace tiempo se  vieron imágenes de él en horas bajas. Eso ya ha pasado e “Invicible shield” es una indudable muestra de capacidad interpretativa, llegando a hacer incluso guiños a la voz de Ozzy Osbourne en el tema “Escape from reality”.

Después del ya mencionado “Firepower” y este “Invicible shield” es innegable que gran parte del salto cualitativo viene de la mando de la participación de Andy Sneap en ambos trabajos, que junto con el menciona Faulkner, son los arietes que han dado forma a este formidable redondo.

He leído y escuchado algunos comentarios en los que se dice que este es el mejor disco de los JUDAS PRIEST. Como bien dice nuestro compañero Moy, hay que tener en cuenta que JUDAS son los autores del “Painkiller”, lo cual es mucho decir. Para no pecar de entusiasmo desmedido, diré que es uno de los mejores discos de su carrera, con el mérito de ser publicado cuando ya han celebrado sus bodas de oro en el mundo del rock.

Creo que estaremos todos de acuerdo en que este disco estará muy alto en el top de 2024, pero ¿hasta dónde llegará?

One of the albums that has probably revolutionized the metal scene in recent years has just been released. Invicible shiled» is the topic of conversation in all the circles and the soundtrack that fills every self-respecting record store.

The British band had already warmed up the atmosphere with the several singles they had been releasing in the previous months. With songs like «Panic attack», «The serpent and the King», «Crown of horns» or «Trial by fire» it was obvious that only with those songs we were going to be talking about a reference album of their discography and good proof of this was the amount of beers that they were accumulating in each of the Hörns üp programs in which they were included in the playlist.

As it already happened with «Firepower», their previous work, a great part of the strength that the band displays flows through Richie Faulkner’s guitar, who shows to be in a state of grace both at a compositional and interpretative level, both in the rhythmic guitars as well as in the lead guitars.  What he does in songs like «Devil in disguise» or «Crown of horns» is to set a new standard for guitar playing.

I was especially pleased to hear Rob Halford’s voice maintaining such a wide range of registers and sustaining such high-pitched tones at seventy-two years of age, even more so when some time ago images of him in his low hours were seen. That has already happened and «Invicible shield» is an undoubted sample of interpretative capacity, even making nods to Ozzy Osbourne’s voice in the song «Escape from reality».

After the already mentioned «Firepower» and this «Invicible shield» it is undeniable that great part of the qualitative jump comes from the participation of Andy Sneap in both works, that together with the mentioned Faulkner, are the battering rams that have given form to this formidable round.

I have read and listened to some comments in which it is said that this is the best album of JUDAS PRIEST. As our colleague Moy rightly says, we have to take into account that JUDAS are the authors of «Painkiller», which is a lot to say. In order not to sin of excessive enthusiasm, I will say that it is one of the best albums of their career, with the merit of being published when they have already celebrated their golden anniversary in the world of rock.

I think we will all agree that this album will be very high in the top of 2024, but how far will it go?
