STRIKER – Ultrapower, 2024

Grata sorpresa con la que nos han sorprendido los canadienses STRIKER con este “Ultrapower”.
Hace unos años había escuchado algo de ellos, en la que mostraban sus influencias por un estilo más en onda thrash “old school”. Con este nuevo disco, sin renunciar a sus orígenes, se atreven a mezclar a ese toque más heavy metal con unos sonidos más melódicos y aderezados con unos coros muy pegadizos a lo largo del álbum, lo que le otorga un resultado final más que interesante tal y como nos muestran en cortes como “Circle of Evil” o “Best of the Best of the Best”, donde aparte de todo lo anteriormente mencionado, le añaden unos fantásticos solos de guitarra; ya tenemos los ingredientes suficientes para hacernos disfrutar como en aquellos queridos años 80 y principios de los 90, muy añorados por la gran mayoría de nosotros.
Con el single “Give it All”, llegamos a uno de los momentos más álgidos del plástico, donde parece que la banda se haya agenciado del famoso DeLorean para viajar a aquellos maravillosos 80, recordando a aquellas míticas bandas sonoras como las de Miami Vice, sobre todo por la acertadísima inclusión del saxo, y con unos fantásticos coros que te recordarán a los DEF LEPPARD de aquella época.
Repiten fórmula en “Live to Fight Another Day”, donde a parte de los coros se atreven con unas baterías programadas, todo un guiño a la época anteriormente citada.
Tampoco se olvidan de temas más “campeones” como los de anteriores etapas; ¿resultado? la tremenda “Blood Magic”, “Turn the Lights Out” o la que cierra el disco: “Brawlatthe Pub”, con las que te recordarán a bandas como LEATHERWOLF o JUDAS PRIEST de su época “Turbo” o “Screaming for Vengeance”.
Con “Ultrapower” la banda no nos descubre nada nuevo, pero te hacen disfrutar y pasar un muy buen rato, que al final es de lo que se trata.

Pleasant surprise with which the Canadians STRIKER have surprised us with this «Ultrapower».
A few years ago I had heard something of them, in which they showed their influences for a more «old school» thrash style. With this new album, without renouncing to their origins, they dare to mix that more heavy metal touch with more melodic sounds and seasoned with some very catchy choruses throughout the album, which gives a final result more than interesting as they show us in tracks like «Circle of Evil» or «Best of the Best of the Best of the Best», where apart from all the above mentioned, they add some fantastic guitar solos; we already have enough ingredients to make us enjoy as in those beloved 80’s and early 90’s, much missed by most of us.
With the single «Give it All», we reach one of the highest moments of the album, where it seems that the band has taken possession of the famous DeLorean to travel to those wonderful 80’s, reminding us of those mythical soundtracks like Miami Vice, especially for the very accurate inclusion of the sax, and with some fantastic choruses that will remind you of DEF LEPPARD of that time.
They repeat the formula in «Live to Fight Another Day», where, apart from the chorus, they dare to use programmed drums, a nod to the aforementioned era.
They don’t forget either more «champion» songs like those of previous stages; the result? the tremendous «Blood Magic», «Turn the Lights Out» or the one that closes the album: «Brawlatthe Pub», with which they will remind you of bands like LEATHERWOLF or JUDAS PRIEST from their «Turbo» or «Screaming for Vengeance» era.
With «Ultrapower» the band doesn’t discover anything new, but they make you enjoy and have a good time, which is what it’s all about.
