Aunque no ha habido comunicado oficial, prácticamente todos damos por disuelta la súper banda SONS OF APOLLO, y más aún, con la vuelta de Portnoy a DREAM THEATER.

Pero parece que a Derek y Ron les ha sabido a poco todo aquello y, para alegría de muchos, nos presentan este ‘Insanium’ junto con el conocido vocalista Dino Jelusick, el bajista Yas Nomura y el batería Bruno Valverde, completando así una alineación de lujo.

Hace ya unas semanas que nos presentaron ‘In the Name of War’, primer single con el que nos regalaron un pequeño aperitivo de muestra de lo que podríamos degustar a lo largo de este variado menú: genialidades sonoras por parte de Sherinian y Bumblefoot junto una destacada labor vocal por parte de Dino, quien se ha encargado de crear todas las letras y melodías vocales del redondo, a la que sumamos la base rítmica de Yas y Bruno: una auténtica apisonadora en temas como la frenética instrumental ‘Hypernova 158’.

Con ‘Insanium’ uno no puede evitar hacer comparaciones, sobretodo con SONS OF APOLLO; aunque el resultado de WHOM GODS DESTROY es más oscura y pesada, como nos muestran en ‘Crucifier’, con un Dino más agresivo de lo habitual y muy influenciado por Russell Allen, o ‘Crawl’, donde Derek vuelve a demostrar porqué es uno de los mejores teclistas del planeta; sensacional a lo largo de los nueve temas.

Con ‘The Decision’ llega uno de los platos fuertes, donde Dino vuelve a destacar con una de las mejores melodías del disco, y en la que te obliga a subir el volumen del reproductor y disfrutar de este viaje junto con los ataques en forma de solos por parte de Derek y Ron.

No falta el momento ‘relax’ con ‘Find My Way Back, una balada que sirve de pequeño respiro para volver a la carga y deleitarnos de nuevo con ‘Keeper of the Gate’, con un ritmo muy en onda THE WINERY DOGS, para llegar al postre con la fantástica ‘Insanium’, donde los cinco nos vuelven a demostrar sus habilidades y técnica con sus instrumentos.

Un disco con el que no nos descubren nada nuevo, pero que es de escucha obligada para cualquier seguidor de los grupos y músicos mencionados.

Esperemos que confirmen una gira para presentar el disco y que continúe la fiesta.

Although there has been no official announcement, practically all of us consider the super band SONS OF APOLLO disbanded, and even more with Portnoy’s return to DREAM THEATER.

But it seems that Derek and Ron have not been too happy about all that and, to the joy of many, they present us this ‘Insanium’ together with the well-known vocalist Dino Jelusick, bassist Yas Nomura and drummer Bruno Valverde, thus completing a luxury line-up.

A few weeks ago they presented us with ‘In the Name of War’, first single which gave us a small sample appetizer of what we could taste along this varied menu: brilliant sounds by Sherinian and Bumblefoot along with an outstanding vocal work by Dino, who has been in charge of creating all the lyrics and vocal melodies of the album, to which we add the rhythmic base of Yas and Bruno: a real steamroller in songs like the frenetic instrumental ‘Hypernova 158’.

With ‘Insanium’ one cannot avoid making comparisons, especially with SONS OF APOLLO; although the result of WHOM GODS DESTROY is darker and heavier, as they show us in ‘Crucifier’, with a more aggressive Dino than usual and very influenced by Russell Allen, or ‘Crawl’, where Derek again demonstrates why he is one of the best keyboard players on the planet; sensational throughout the nine tracks.

With ‘The Decision’ comes one of the highlights, where Dino once again stands out with one of the best melodies of the album, and in which you are forced to turn up the volume of the player and enjoy this trip along with the attacks in the form of solos by Derek and Ron.

There is no lack of ‘relax’ moment with ‘Find My Way Back’, a ballad that serves as a small respite to return to the load and delight us again with ‘Keeper of the Gate’, with a rhythm very in wave THE WINERY DOGS, to reach the dessert with the fantastic ‘Insanium’, where the five again show us their skills and technique with their instruments.

An album that doesn’t discover anything new, but it is a must listen for any follower of the aforementioned bands and musicians.

Let’s hope they confirm a tour to present the album and keep the party going.
