Vamos a dejar por un momento la chupa de motero y vamos a calzarnos un sombrero y unas buenas botas para sumergirnos en la “Americana music”, con este disco que Moy A M Horns Up nos trajo hace dos semanas en su último programa de Rock, Blues and Beers.
Como nos contaba el propio Moy en su programa, RĪ Wolf es un cantautor estadounidense que durante nueve años decidió dar un parón a su carrera musical y dedicarse en exclusiva al atletismo como entrenador, volviendo en 2020 y cosechando muy buenas críticas de su primer trabajo “Elemmental”. En su retorno ha lanzado este disco en el que explora en profundidad el rock, el country y el blues.
En los temas de este disco podemos ver con nitidez los elementos que han hecho al country uno de los géneros con más tirón al otro lado del Atlántico, con muchas referencias a la naturaleza como ancla del ser humano a un lugar y a sus orígenes. Los temas no son los clásicos temas que son proclives al baile, sino que requieren una escucha más introspectiva y reflexiva como “Keep looking up”, You won’t stop the rain” o “Texas rose”.
Como buen tejano, no podía faltar el rock/country más sureño posible como es el rock de frontera, con “Blood red river” o “Pinche el Camino”.
Las composiciones están repletas del mítico sonido de la steel guitar y los slides. Este recurso está presente incluso en temas con un sonido mucho más blusero como en “Hard times are comin’”, que se fundamenta en el clásico estilo shuffle de la guitarra rítmica del blues, pero con un timbre en la voz que le hace descender por el Río Colorado a través del Estado de la Estrella Solitaria. Con ello, las composiciones se empapan de toda su esencia del Sur y fusiona así dos de los pilares musicales de los Estados Unidos.
Me ha parecido un disco excelente, que no le sobra nada. Es más, se me ha hecho corto y me habría encantado que tuviera algún corte más.
Ahora voy a desempolvar mis botas…

Let’s leave the biker jacket behind for a moment and put on a hat and some good boots to dive into Americana music, with this album that Moy Alvarez brought us two weeks ago on his last Rock, Blues and Beers show.
As Moy himself told us in his program, RĪ Wolf is an American singer-songwriter who for nine years decided to take a break from his musical career and devote himself exclusively to athletics as a coach, returning in 2020 and reaping very good reviews of his first work «Elemmental». In this return he has released this album in which he explores in depth rock, country and blues.
In the songs of this album we can clearly see the elements that have made country music one of the most popular genres on the other side of the Atlantic, with many references to nature as an anchor of the human being to a place and its origins. The songs are not the classic dance tracks, but require a more introspective and reflective listening, such as «Keep looking up», «You won’t stop the rain» or «Texas rose».
As a good Texan, we could not miss the most southern rock/country possible, such as frontier rock, with «Blood red river» or «Pinche el Camino».
The compositions are full of the mythical sound of steel guitar and slides. This resource is present even in songs with a much more bluesy sound as in «Hard times are comin'», which is based on the classic shuffle style of the blues rhythm guitar, but with a timbre in the voice that makes it descend the Colorado River through the Lone Star State. In doing so, the compositions are steeped in the essence of the South, fusing two of America’s musical mainstays.
I found it to be an excellent album, with nothing to spare. What’s more, it was short and I would have loved to have more songs on it.
