Imaginad una puerta negra, llena de pegatinas y carteles de conciertos pasados de fecha. Llamáis a la puerta y nada más entrar os encontráis con una escalera estrecha, empinada y oscura que comenzáis a bajar siguiendo un resplandor rojizo e intermitente que ilumina su final. A cada peldaño que bajas, notas como la vibración procedente de una música que notabas al principio sólo en los pies, va subiendo poco a poco y cada vez es más fuerte en el pecho. Al llegar al final, percibes cómo el aire de la sala no ha sido renovado hace mucho tiempo y que sobrevuela un manto de humo. Al fondo ves el pequeño escenario iluminado a penas por un par de focos en el que una batería y una guitarra te provocan para que te acerques… esas imágenes son las que han venido a mi mente cuanto he escuchado el disco de “Let the World burn out” de THE DEVILS.
THE DEVILS es el proyecto musical que nos traen desde Italia Gianni Blacula (guitarra y voz) and Erika Switchblade (batería y voz) y que tiene partes de rockabilly, stoner, punk, garage rock, e incluso el tema “Roar II” parece de MOTÖRHEAD. En definitiva, un sonido muy canalla. Este disco mantiene la línea del “Beast must regret nothing”, mucho menos radical que “Iron butt” o su disco debut “Sin, you sinners”.
Siendo tan solo un dúo, parece increíble que suene tan contundente, y es que tienen un sonido a válvulas de esos que te deja las orejas calientes, junto con las voces de Gianni y Erika, que muestran una enorme variedad de texturas, pasando a temas muy punk como en “Shake ‘em” a voces propias de las clásicas femme fatale, como en “Til life do us part”, y voces rockeras como en “Big city lights”.
“Let the World burn out” es la excusa ideal para conocer a este grupo y descubrir su discografía y, simplemente, dejarse llevar por el pogo.

Imagine a black door, full of stickers and posters of outdated concerts. You knock on the door and as soon as you enter you find a narrow, steep and dark staircase that you begin to descend following a reddish and intermittent glow that illuminates its end. With each step you descend, you feel the vibration coming from a music that at first you felt only in your feet, gradually rising and getting stronger in your chest. When you reach the end, you perceive how the air in the room has not been renewed for a long time and that a blanket of smoke flies over it. In the background you see the small stage barely illuminated by a couple of spotlights where a drummer and a guitar provoke you to come closer… those images are the ones that came to my mind when I listened to THE DEVILS’ album «Let the World burn out».
THE DEVILS is the musical project that Gianni Blacula (guitar and vocals) and Erika Switchblade (drums and vocals) bring us from Italy and that has parts of rockabilly, stoner, punk, garage rock, and even the song «Roar II» sounds like MOTÖRHEAD. In short, a very rogue sound. This album keeps the line of «Beast must regret nothing», much less radical than «Iron butt» or their debut album «Sin, you sinners».
Being only a duo, it seems incredible that they sound so forceful, and they have a tube sound that leaves your ears warm, along with the voices of Gianni and Erika, which show a huge variety of textures, going from very punk songs like «Shake ‘em» to classic femme fatale voices, as in «Til life do us part», and rock voices as in «Big city lights».
«Let the World burn out» is the ideal excuse to get to know this band and discover their discography and, simply, let yourself be carried away by the pit.
