La banda mallorquina GOLGOTHA sigue ampliando su legado en el doom nacional con un nuevo disco titulado “Hubris”, el séptimo en su carrera.
GOLGOTHA sigue firme en su propuesta, en la que va profundizando poco a poco en cada disco, de tal forma que en este la dualidad vocal de María J. Lladó y Andrew Spinoza es más acusada aún que en su anterior trabajo “Spreading the Wings of Hope”, si bien el timbre de María embauca algo más, facilitando que el mensaje intimista del disco cale más en el oyente.
Su planteamiento del doom es propio, al permitirse recursos poco habituales en el subgénero, como compases a un ritmo que casi suenan más a black metal, y otros con una cadencia característica del metal gótico.
Como nota adicional, la producción consigue un sonido mucho más denso y oscuro que otros trabajos, generando la atmósfera sonora ideal para catalizar el sentir del disco. En esta ocasión, la voz de Andrew sí tienen la presencia que eché en falta en el anterior disco.
“Hubris” es otro trabajo exquisito de GOLGOTHA.

The Mallorcan band GOLGOTHA continues to build on its legacy in the Spanish doom metal scene with a new album titled “Hubris,” the seventh of their career.
GOLGOTHA remains steadfast in its approach, gradually delving deeper with each album; on this one, the vocal duality of María J. Lladó and Andrew Spinoza is even more pronounced than on their previous work, “Spreading the Wings of Hope,” though María’s tone is slightly more captivating, allowing the album’s intimate message to resonate more deeply with the listener.
Their approach to doom is unique, as they employ resources uncommon in the subgenre, such as sections with a rhythm that almost sounds more like black metal, and others with a cadence characteristic of gothic metal.
As a side note, the production achieves a much denser and darker sound than their previous works, creating the ideal sonic atmosphere to capture the album’s essence. This time around, Andrew’s vocals do have the presence I felt was missing on the previous album.
“Hubris” is another exquisite work by GOLGOTHA.
