Hay discos que llamo de “tránsito”, formados por melodías que te acompañan no de un lugar físico a otro, si no de cambios de ánimo mental y que hacen que te apetezca bajar la ventanilla que todos tenemos en nuestro cerebro y dejar entrar una bocanada de aire fresco. Con el disco “Pollen” el aire entra mezclado con un poco de polvo procedente del cruce de caminos entre el hard rock, el country y el grunge, pero es igualmente revitalizador.
Todas esas influencias BLACKTOP MOJO las muestra de manera magistral en cada uno de sus temas, pero con el valor de que en todo caso sigue sonando a BLACKTOP MOJO al imprimar su voz en todas ellas, sin que el disco se convierta en un collage de temas que poco o nada tienen que ver entre sí.
Como pauta general, estaríamos hablando de un disco de hard rock, aunque el acento sureño y el toque LYNYRD SKYNRD está presente en todos los cortes de disco, sobre todo por el timbre en la voz de Matt James, pero “Rise”, “Shoulda just gone to sleep” y “As the light fades”son los que nos hacen sacudir el polvo de nuestras botas. “Something’s changed” incluso se sumerge dentro del sonido gospel y del rhythm and blues.
Pero en ese viaje a través de los distintos estilos de la Americana Music, Matt James es el que nos lleva de la mano para que no nos perdamos, ya sea con las sacudidas de “Weary I roam” o “I can´ttell” o meciéndonos bajo el cálido Sol de la primera parte de “Born to lose”.
“Pollen” es una obra maestra. Y punto.

There are albums that I call » transitional «, formed by melodies that accompany you not from one physical place to another, but of mental mood changes that make you want to lower the window that we all have in our brains and let in a breath of fresh air. With the album «Pollen» the air comes in mixed with a little dust from the crossroads of hard rock, country and grunge, but it’s equally invigorating.
All these influences BLACKTOP MOJO shows them in a masterful way in each of their songs, but with the value that in any case it still sounds like BLACKTOP MOJO by imprinting their voice in all of them, without the album becoming a collage of songs that have little or nothing to do with each other.
As a general guideline, we would be talking about a hard rock album, although the southern accent and the LYNYRD SKYNRD touch is present in all the cuts of the album, especially in the timbre of Matt James’ voice, but «Rise», «Shoulda just gone to sleep» and «As the light fades» are the ones that make us shake the dust off our boots. «Something’s changed» even dips into the gospel and rhythm and blues sound.
But in this journey through the different styles of Americana Music, Matt James is the one who takes us by the hand so that we don’t get lost, either with the shakes of «Weary I roam» or «I can’ttell» or rocking under the warm sun of the first part of «Born to lose».
«Pollen» is a masterpiece. That’s it.
