Sólo con pronunciar el nombre de DRACONIAN, es suficiente para que nuestra mente se vaya a los parajes oscuros nórdicos de la mano de una de las bandas más emblemáticas del doom gótico que se mantienen en activo.
“In somnolent ruin” es su nuevo trabajo, y el primero en la segunda etapa de la cantante Lisa Johanson, después de diez años apartada de la formación.
La dualidad de voces y las poéticas letras de Anders Jacobsson siguen siendo el sustrato sobre el que crece el disco, si bien en este disco, a diferencia de los anteriores, la voz gutural más que servir para ahondar en la tristeza, suena al impulso rabioso del que cae y quiere oponerse a la gravedad, mientras que la voz limpia es el bálsamo que amortigua el impacto.

Just hearing the name DRACONIAN is enough to transport our minds to the dark Nordic landscapes, guided by one of the most iconic bands in the gothic doom scene still active today.
“In Somnolent Ruin” is their new album, and the first in singer Lisa Johanson’s second stint with the band, following a ten-year hiatus.
The duality of vocals and the poetic lyrics by Anders Jacobsson remain the foundation upon which the album is built, though on this record—unlike previous ones—the guttural vocals, rather than serving to deepen the sadness, sound like the furious impulse of one who is falling and wants to defy gravity, while the clean vocals are the balm that cushions the impact.
“In Somnolent Ruin,” DRACONIAN remain true to their identity, but with greater intensity than in previous releases.
